Begging is not a Career

We see it everyday. At the stoplights, in the market, on the steps to the National Palace.

Children begging.

It’s difficult to fathom the set of circumstances that have led a family to be in a place where the children are begging in the street. It’s the unfortunate reality of eighty percent of the world.

It’s easy to toss a few coins their way and move on. It’s easy to forget their faces and palms outstretched. It’s easy to toss the piece of gum they just sold you and continue walking.

It’s harder to invest into their lives. It’s poses more of a challenge to imagine a better life and a future. It requires a bit more sacrifice to provide an opportunity that otherwise would never come.

Since October 2003 LifeLink International has been investing into children to help end the cycle of poverty. I feel privileged to be a part of the answer to the question of desperate poverty. It’s an honor to be able to serve children in the City of Sandino, and to know that our efforts are making a long lasting difference. It feels amazing to help install an idea that will forever change their lives.

That begging is not a career.
